Migraine without headache

Migraine without headache
An optical migraine or a silent migraine is a migraine without headache. It sounds strange, but it is not. Over the years this silent attacker has donned many names, and these include: painless migraine, migraine equivalent, sans-migraine, ocular migraine, acepahlgic migraine, visual migraine, and eye migraine. Today it goes by the name migraine without headache. Migraine aura is the term that is used when describing other symptoms that accompany a migraine, but these are usually referred to as visual symptoms. This may cause the sufferer from witnessing flashy lights or zigzags, or experience vertigo and dizziness. It is estimated that around 15 percent of the migraineurs experience aura. Before the headache starts, there is a host of symptoms that rise. These include: numbness, slurred speech, bodily pain – ringing sounds in the ears, pain in the face and the skin. Interesting to know is that migraine without headache occurs late in one’s life, and this time more in males than in females. With all these symptoms, migraine without headache is hard to diagnose. If you get a headache on one side of the head, a migraine may be suspected. Where the misdiagnosis comes in is when there is no headache. Those that suffer from “ordinary” migraines can experience a migraine without headache as they live life. There is an estimation of around 20 percent of sufferers of normal migraines that have suffered from a painless headache. For someone that has a history of this unbearable headache can easily recognize any symptoms of a silent migraine. Migraine without headache has not had enough attention, because it is tossed in with all the other migraines. In a few migraine books the silent migraine does not have its own space on the index page, but it is talked about here and little bit there along with other migraines in the book, and this can cause frustration for silent migraine sufferers looking for help. When you are looking for a diagnosis, what you need to do is scratch out certain disorders. However, if you have suffered from a stroke, don’t scratch it off. This has to be known. Acephalgic migraines may cause hallucinations and visual disturbances, but then again you could have an eye problem. These are the things you will hear from a doctor if not addressed properly. So, if you are experiencing vertigo, numbness and visual disturbances, consult your doctor immediately. If you have a medical history of migraines in your family, take it up with your doctor. Migraines are a genetic disease. If taken up with you doctor, he or she will suspect you of having a migraine without headache.
