Lost green card

Lost green card
If you have a lost Green Card, fortunately all may not be lost. The first thing to do will be not to panic, and to inform the relevant immigration services of your mishap. As long as you have had no problems with your stay in the United States, then you should be ok. It may simply be a matter of getting to the relevant authority and being awarded a temporary proof of status while you are issued with a new Green Card. This may take a while, as your records and status are checked, but as long as you are covered with the temporary proof you should be ok. There could be fees involved. Having a lost Green Card does not mean that you will immediately lose all of the privileges that you have been awarded. What you must do is inform immigration of what has happened as soon as you have found out that it is missing. Do not delay in this matter, as the Green Card is an important form of identification. It will have your signature, photograph as well as your fingerprint upon it. The status of the card is something that affords privileges such as being able to work legally, and to vote in local and state elections. This is not something to lose or be without. It is important to realize that a lost Green Card is not the end of the world. You should be able to get a replacement fairly easily, even though it may take some time and some fees may be applied to the application. There are resources on the Internet of where to go and what forms to get in order to apply for a new one. This almost falls under the same- jurisdiction of having to renew your Green Card after having it for ten years. When residing in another country, but remaining as a citizen of your native land, it is important to be as diligent as you can over your legal documents. If you do face problems, then you may have to resort to finding a Green Card attorney to help you out. Hopefully the situation should not deteriorate to such a point, especially if all of your paperwork is in order and you have good proof of your status with you. If you have a lost Green Card, sort out the problem immediately, the authorities will likely do all they can to help you rectify the situation, but it some circumstances it could raise problems of you getting employed somewhere if it is found to be missing.
